TERRE HAUTE — Though busy with his Atlanta band the “Mark Cook Project,” along with teaching and recording music, Mark Cook still finds time to provide Terre Haute with an occaisional dose of blues. Cook, a former Terre Haute resident now living in Atlanta, is a nationally recognized guitarist and recording artist.
His Terre Haute blues band “Cook-N-Blues” will be performing at 9 p.m. today and Saturday at Mulligan’s Sports Bar in Terre Haute. The band consists of members Adam Moraga on vocals and bass, Brad Dart on drums and Cook on guitar. Cook also will bring guest vocalist Cindy Simmons with him to Terre Haute. Chris Medina, recent Idol hopeful who unfortunately didn’t make it through Hollywood week, was on Ryan Seacrest’s radio program today to discuss Idol and his new single when he received a happy shock. Medina’s fiancée, Juliana, was injured in a serious car accident in 2009, incurring serious facial and brain trauma. She has been undergoing treatments since then and recovery has been slow. Not surprisingly, the treatments are quite costly. Today Seacrest told Medina live on the air that Proactiv had agreed to donate $35,000 to the Laurus Foundation towards Juliana’s recovery. Medina, who has stood by Juliana through the entire ordeal, was practically speechless. “It’s so awesome. It’s real cool,” he said, obviously overcome with emotion. Read full post…

TERRE HAUTE — Arts Illiana is planning three event-filled days of amazing art, terrific tablescape designs, exceptional entertainment and much more. The 2011 TableScapes fundraising event is scheduled for Thursday through March 5 at the Ohio Building in downtown Terre Haute. Proceeds will benefit the arts in the Wabash Valley and help to establish an arts education grant program through Arts Illiana.
The public is invited to join the celebration of the TableScapes preview evening on Thursday. Arts Illiana is once again partnering with the Vigo County Public Library to kick off the Big Read, featuring Edgar Allan Poe’s “Eight Tales of Terror” collection of short stories. The eve
