Arts Illiana plans 2011 TableScapes weekend
Entertainment On-line February 25th. 2011, 11:15pmTERRE HAUTE — Arts Illiana is planning three event-filled days of amazing art, terrific tablescape designs, exceptional entertainment and much more. The 2011 TableScapes fundraising event is scheduled for Thursday through March 5 at the Ohio Building in downtown Terre Haute. Proceeds will benefit the arts in the Wabash Valley and help to establish an arts education grant program through Arts Illiana.
The public is invited to join the celebration of the TableScapes preview evening on Thursday. Arts Illiana is once again partnering with the Vigo County Public Library to kick off the Big Read, featuring Edgar Allan Poe’s “Eight Tales of Terror” collection of short stories. The evening will include musical entertainment by Marshall Rector & Easy Street, plus excerpts from Edgar Allan Poe’s stories read by Lewis Hackleman and Sheron Dailey at 7 p.m., with James Chesterson reading “Dreams” and “Alone” at 8 p.m.
The opening reception will serve as a preview evening for the designed tables and an opportunity to meet the designers who have participated in this year’s event. In addition, guests for the evening will be served hors d’oeuvres provided by Chef Shelby from the Country Club of Terre Haute, while sipping on a drink from the cash bar provided by Patrick Sparks. Attendees are invited to bid on their favorite silent auction items, including exclusive baskets and work from the premiere artists in the Wabash Valley.
Daily viewing of the tables begins on March 4. The public is invited to vote on the designs. Viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Daily viewings continue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 5.
Patrons will enjoy a new addition to TableScapes for 2011. Dance the night away and sip signature cocktails from 7 to 11 p.m. on March 4 at the Art & Music Soirée. The evening will include entertainment featuring popular vocalist Jill Shutt performing with the John Spicknall Trio at the Casa Urbana. Take home a work of art from the “Buy it Now” Art Gallery, a one-night only sale featuring local artists’ work. Bid on items in the silent auction. Take a break from dancing and view the TableScapes while sampling wine and cheese provided by 7th & 70 Liquors and Cabot Creamery.
Art Totality will present a children’s art workshop from 11 a.m. to noon on March 5. Families and friends of all ages will enjoy the opportunity to learn about drums from Todd Brooks, a former Chicago musician, during The Art of Drumming. Learn about the drum set and percussion instruments, acoustic and electric drums, recording and sound reinforcement of drums, and ensemble and solos demos.
Included will be fun rhythm exercises for participants and a question-and-answer session for adults. Admission for children 12 and under ($6) and adults ($12) will be donated to Arts Illiana. The adult ticket price also includes the opportunity to view and vote on the tablescapes.
Arts Illiana will honor winning designers at 6 p.m. on March 5 at “Dinner on the Scapes.” Guests will enjoy music by guitarist Kade Puckett and dinner prepared by Chef Shelby. The silent auction comes to a close at the end of the evening. Winning bidders will claim their works of art and silent auction baskets. Call Arts Illiana to make a reservation.
TableScapes is vital to Arts Illiana’s mission to “promote, support and enhance the arts of the Wabash Valley” and establishes arts education grants for area youth.
