There were two Star Wars-related announcements during Comic Con last week that aren’t particularly huge but that are pretty cool nonetheless. The first of these was the release of what Lucasfilm is calling the Star Wars Blu-ray: Early Access app for the iPad (and, in August, other mobile devices). The Early Access app allows you to access select special features from the upcoming Star Wars Blu-ray sets, including concept art, interviews, and commentaries. The app itself is pretty slick-looking, too.

Victoria Justice, star of Nickelodeon’s “Victorious,” will be signing copies of her new CD, “Victorious: Music From the Hit TV Show,” from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Walmart in Mayfield Heights. A Columbia Records/Nickelodeon release, the CD features 12 songs (and an additional iTunes exclusive bonus song) performed by Justice and the cast on the cable sitcom that premiered in March 2010.
Selections include the show’s theme song, “Make It Shine,” as well as “Beggin’ On Your Knees,” “Freak the Freak Out” and Best Friend’s Brother.” Created by Nick sitcom veteran Dan Schneider (“Drake & Josh”), “Victorious” stars Justice as Tori Vega, an aspiring singer attending Hollywood Arts High School.

NEW YORK (AP) – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is now renting and streaming movies online, many the same day they come out on DVD, in a second bid for a share of popular movie rental and streaming website Netflix Inc.’s business.
The world’s largest retailer bought video-streaming service Vudu.com 18 months ago and Tuesday started offering 20,000 titles that can be viewed on almost any device with Internet access, from PCs to televisions to Sony’s PlayStation3 and other Blu-Ray disc players.
Movies are available at Walmart.com to rent for $1 to $5.99 or to purchase for $4.99 and up.

If you think you know a lot about medical marijuana now that it’s legal in Michigan, find out how states like California handle the drug. PBS’ award-winning newsmagazine “Frontline” will spotlight marijuana legalization in the special report, “The Pot Republic.” “Frontline” airs at 10 tonight on WTVS-TV (Channel 56) and will examine how the bulk of marijuana consumed in the United States once came across the border from Mexico and Canada. Now, more than half of it is grown in California, where a lucrative black market has emerged.
