There was plenty of kissing going on last night’s episode of “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Who knew that guest judge Kristen Chenoweth–I just love her energy– could stir up so much sexual tension?

After some back and forth between host Cat Deeley and the judges it was time to get started.

First up was a group dance with Sasha, Chris, Ryan, Tadd, Clarice, Marko, Miranda and Mitchell. They perform a Tyce Diorio choreographed routine to “Hit The Road Jack” by Ray Charles. It’s typical Tyce– jazzy, Broadway, with a touch of pizazz. It’s hard to judge them individually. There are simply too many moving parts.Sasha and Alexandre are the first couple to dance. (Hey! Didn’t she just dance?) Anywho, they perform a contemporary routine choreographed by Dee Caspary to “Belong” by Cary Brothers. It involves a piano as a prop. It’s a pretty routine, but it  is more acting than dancing. This might hurt them. Judge Nigel Lythgoe doesn’t agree with me. He says that the show is off to a good start. Nigel compliments Sasha’s movement. Judge Mary Murphy loves the concept and she says both are strong dancers. She says that Alexander is growing. She calls Sasha a “gorgeous artist.” Kristen says Sasha is amazing. Kristen says that Alexander’s extension is great. Lil C says he loves the piece and loves the couple.

Caitlynn and Mitchell are next with a samba by Jean-Marc Genereaux. They dance to “Put It In A Love Song” by Alicia Keys and Beyonce. They do a good job moving to the beat. They are very expressive. Mary says the routine is spectacular. She calls them hot tamales. Kristen gushes. Lil C says they “murdered” the routine. Nigel says Mitchell brings a good energy and style to the program. He says Caitlynn is terrific. Miranda and Robert are next with a Broadway routine choreographed by Tyce Diorio. They dance to “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)” from Sophisticated. It’s very fast paced and filled with intricate details. Kristen says they “killed it.” Lil C says that Miranda leaves him in awe. Nigel agrees with Lil C in saying that Miranda has changed the most this season. Mary says the two are great together.

Melanie and Marko are next with a lyrical hip hop routine from Napoleon and Tabitha. They dance to “I Got You” by Leona Lewis. They dance effortlessly. Lil C says that they are a power couple. Nigel says it is a brillant concept. He adds that they are the couple to beat. Mary says that the two keep knocking out a special performance every single week. Somewhere in between all the gushing, Nigel plants a big kiss on Mary. Kristen says she’s moved. And then she plants a kiss on Lil C. Nigel follows suit and goes after Lil C. The audience goes wild.

Ashley and Chris are next with a Sonya Tayeh jazz routine. They dance to “Lights Go Down” by Telepathe. Nigel says he doesn’t connect with the music. He says there wasn’t enough character and heart and soul. Mary says the routine is clean and sharp. Kristen says she’s watching in amazement. She also adds that the routine isn’t her “thing.” She flips again and says that Ashley is one of her favorites on the show. Lil C says Ashley is the “sleeper cell” of the compeition. He calls Chris an “assassin.”

Clarice and Jess are next with a foxtrot choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereaux to “Fly Me To The Moon” by Frank Sinatra. It’s kind of blah. Mary says its perfect. Kristen says it is her favorite routine of the night. She calls them “Fred and Ginger.” Nigel uses his opportunity to make Clarice show off the back of her dress. Seriously, Nigel? You didn’t want to praise the wardrobe designers.

Ryan and Ricky are next with a Sonya Tayeh contemporary routine. They dance to “With Every Heartbeat” by Robyn. The dance features a prop–a piece of cloth attached to Ryan’s costume. They use the cloth to play tug of war and dance around. Kristen says that Ricky has beautiful turnouts. Lil C says that they are also a power couple. Nigel says that Ryan delivered. He says that he couldn’t take his eyes off Ricky. Mary says that they do a great job dealing with the prop.

Jordan and Tadd are next with hip hop routine by Tabitha and Napoleon. They dance to “Memories” by David Guetta. They start off in bed and they end up in bed. (It’s really suggestive, but it’s fun.) Lil C says that the two need to dance all the way through the movement. Nigel says the routine brings back memories. (Thanks for the nightmares, Nigel.) He says it was great fun. (I’m sure it was.) He says they will be safe. Mary says the routine was fun. Kristen says they are amazing. “That was dessert and I liked every single bite,” she adds. Jordan, Robert, Melanie, Jess, Ashley, Alexander, Caitlynn, Ricky dance a Dee Caspary choreographed contemporary routine to “Poison & Wine” by The Civil Wars. I like this routine better than Tyce’s. This one really showcases the strength of the women. It’s a strong piece. What did you think about the episode? Are you still trying to block out the images of Nigel and Mary? I won’t be able to e that for a couple days. (You know they are going to show it again tonight during the results show.) Help!
